AN INTRODUCTION TO AVOCET MEDICAL
Our Aims
To enable people and organisations to meet their first aid and health and safety requirements by providing high quality first aid and safety at work training - using the most up-to-date methods and equipment.
Our Background
Avocet Medical Limited was formed by Ian Pinkney and Stephen Inglis. They met whilst serving with the Royal Navy as medical assistants and have over 45 years of medical and first aid experience between them. Ian has taught first aid in both shore and seagoing environments - working with both the British and European navies whilst Steve has worked extensively with the Royal Marines and was until recently, the manager of the Navy's lead first aid school at Portsmouth.
Our People
An organisation is nothing without the right people and therefore Avocet Medical prides itself in insisting on only employing professionally qualified first aid instructors with the appropriate level of experience and knowledge in workplace first aid techniques.
There can be no short-cuts when it comes to teaching first aid - consequently all of our instructors have worked in a variety of clinical environments as A&E nurses, paediatric nurses or paramedics and therefore have first-hand knowledge of their particular subject areas.
Our Delivery
All of our courses are delivered in surroundings conducive to good learning, and a variety of media are used to present the first aid and other safey at work subject material. Presentations using PowerPoint are reinforced with videos and practical demonstrations using the latest resuscitation manikins and associated first aid medical equipment. Role-play and casualty simulation form a large part in assessing a student's progress during a course. We supply each student with all the necessary first aid or other course materials.
Our Standards
At Avocet Medical, we believe our first aid training packages are second to none - producing a very high success rate from the courses that are formally assessed.
Due to the nature of the training we provide and the potential lifesaving situations students could find themselves in, we will only issue certificates of competency to students who are assessed as having met the nationally accepted standard for the first aid or safety at work course concerned.
